What are blogs, anyway?

In a nutshell, blogs are websites where the author talks (”posts”) and readers react with “comments.”  At least that’s how this one is going to work.  Newest postings are at the top, so you’ll need to scroll to the bottom of the page and work your way up if you want to read the posts chronologically.

Comments, on the other hand, follow right after the post they refer to and newer comments follow, so you read down chronologically through the comments.  Go figure.

Sometimes authors post pictures, draw diagrams, or do other clever stuff to help make their points.

Blogs usually provide links to other sites and to other blogs that the author thinks might be of interest to readers, and I’ve done that already and will add links as I think of them.

Most blogs have indexes to the postings so you can find all the posts and comments on a single subject.  I’ll be doing that, too.  For example, when I post something about what kind of fences have worked best for us, I will assign that post to the category of ”fencing.”   Seems logical, doesn’t it?

Your suggestions for topics and categories are most welcome.

Priscilla- what a pleasure to read! Great nuts and bolts information. You almost convince me to crawl out of the primordial muck of my analog life. Thanks for sharing sheepwise.

In the interests of full disclosure, readers should know that Connie is my neighbor.  She and her husband and daughter live on a farm that fairly cries out for Soay sheep and she recently designed and built a new home with her own hands – start to finish. Now that she’s done with that impressive feat, stay tuned to see how long it takes me to persuade her both to become a computer wizard and to acquire her first Soay.
